ALL OFF AIR CHANNELS(Erie /Buff/Pitt/…)

As many know from the current news coverage, a LARGE portion of the American West coast is on fire.  We are now beginning to get the smoke from these fires here on the East coast. (As smoke projection map above shows.)

This is causing hazy cooler days, the faint smell of smoke, the ability to look directly at the sun in the evenings and issues with TV and Radio reception.  The presence of all the smoke in the atmosphere is allowing Canadian channels and channels from other locations to interfere with all our off air TV and Radio signals. We can NOT fix it or do anything about it but “ride it out”.  We have been checking into other means of getting our Erie TV channels, we are trying to find a cost effective and long term solution.

Pittsfield – Channel issues

You will experience outages today 7/16/2020 while we make try to resolve this noise issue.

We are aware of individuals from Prospect St to end of our lines on Rt 6 are experiencing random and ever changing list of missing channels.  What you are seeing with the missing channels is a failing component putting noise into the system. This noise interferes with how your TV is getting the information. Think trying to talk to a friend at a Tractor pull…when there is a break in the noise you can understand them but when the pull is going you can hear they are saying something but not understand them. This is what your TV is doing with the RF noise, it cant understand so it goes blank.  We have been out trying to find where the noise is being generated but it has not broken enough that we can find it. We are continuing to take readings and checking all components to try to catch it while it is broken and making noise.

Incorrect Channel Numbers

All these channels are still on and available. They are temporarily numbered differently.

This was discovered to NOT be a YTV issue but some corrupted data being transmitted within the over air feed we receive.  It IS being worked on.

Sun outage 2020

March 3-March 12

It is that time again! Time to deal with the sun interfering with our TV. Sun outage, Sun transit, or Sun fade is an interruption in or distortion of satellite signals caused by interference (background noise) of the sun when it falls directly behind a satellite which a station is trying to receive data or transmit data to. It usually occurs briefly to such satellites twice per year and such stations install temporary or permanent guards to their receiving systems to prevent equipment damage.

Sun outages occur before the March Equinox (in February and March) and after the September Equinox (in September and October) for the Northern Hemisphere. At these times, the apparent path of the Sun across the sky takes it directly behind the line of sight between an station and a satellite. The Sun radiates strongly across the entire spectrum, including the microwave frequencies used to communicate with satellites (C band, Ku band, and Ka band), so the Sun swamps the signal from the satellite. The effects of a Sun outage range from partial degradation (increase in the error rate) to total destruction of the signal, affecting any specific location for less than 10 – 19 mins

We are aware of on going issues with the sports channels. We have been trouble shooting the problem and have ordered a replacement component to replace faltering one.

ERIE CHANNELS

As originally stated in post Channel 12 Channels, We where contacted by Erie several weeks ago to let us know they have experienced damage to their new antenna that broadcasts channel 12 and its sub-channels. Those subs are channels MeTV, StartTV, and IonTV. This initial damage put them off air for over an hour until they switched over to their old antenna. The old antenna can only transmit at 50% the power that the new one was at. We have been told it will take time to do repairs and get back up to full power on the new antenna again. With channel 12 being at a lower power, although we are currently receiving signal, the signal is now even more susceptible to outage from weather interferences. There may be periodic outages when there is no cloud coverage also. It also effects channel 5 and they are “processed” together.

This is really beyond YTV control and those in Erie ARE working on getting the repairs done so they can restore full service to all their coverage areas.

SATURDAY Dec 28, 2019 “Outages”

As of 9:33am
We are aware some/all Erie channels are off and on.
We are receiving spotty signal from them.
If you rescan now your TV will not get them when they DO come back on!

We have also done some “housekeeping” to our line-up for 2020. We have added 4 Channels, and adjusted line-up to correct issues we found over the last year.
New Channel Line-ups will be at office Monday and available on this site under Channels by end of next week for CLB and Standard.

You will need to RESCAN your TV!
AFTER Erie channels come back on.
