ALL OFF AIR CHANNELS(Erie /Buff/Pitt/…)

As many know from the current news coverage, a LARGE portion of the American West coast is on fire.  We are now beginning to get the smoke from these fires here on the East coast. (As smoke projection map above shows.)

This is causing hazy cooler days, the faint smell of smoke, the ability to look directly at the sun in the evenings and issues with TV and Radio reception.  The presence of all the smoke in the atmosphere is allowing Canadian channels and channels from other locations to interfere with all our off air TV and Radio signals. We can NOT fix it or do anything about it but “ride it out”.  We have been checking into other means of getting our Erie TV channels, we are trying to find a cost effective and long term solution.

ERIE CHANNELS

As originally stated in post Channel 12 Channels, We where contacted by Erie several weeks ago to let us know they have experienced damage to their new antenna that broadcasts channel 12 and its sub-channels. Those subs are channels MeTV, StartTV, and IonTV. This initial damage put them off air for over an hour until they switched over to their old antenna. The old antenna can only transmit at 50% the power that the new one was at. We have been told it will take time to do repairs and get back up to full power on the new antenna again. With channel 12 being at a lower power, although we are currently receiving signal, the signal is now even more susceptible to outage from weather interferences. There may be periodic outages when there is no cloud coverage also. It also effects channel 5 and they are “processed” together.

This is really beyond YTV control and those in Erie ARE working on getting the repairs done so they can restore full service to all their coverage areas.
